V4 Phone Sign Controller
If you call the signs phone number (using a cell phone to make this call is fine) and you get a busy signal (or rings and rings) then that means something at the sign is having an issue (and not the computer side).
1. Make sure you have an analog telephone (cheap $5 phone) and a short phone cord that you can us for testing the phone line with.
2. The first thing to test (if available) is phone line at the point where the phone line is coming from the phone company. Plug your telephone into the test outlet of phone companies box to make sure you have dial tone that that point. If you do not have dial tone at this point, call the phone company for more help.
3. If you have dial tone at the phone companies box, then next would be to test the phone line going into the sign. Unplug the phone line (red colored line in picture below) that is coming out of the “telephone jack” (orange colored box in picture below) and plug your test phone into that “telephone jack”. Check for dial tone. If you do not have dial tone at this point, then replace the phone line between the phone companies box and the “telephone jack”.
4. If you do have dial tone at the “telephone jack” box (orange colored box in picture below), then plug the phone line back into the “telephone jack” and remove the phone line (blue colored line in picture below) from the the “Fax/Modem” side of the surge suppressor (yellow colored box in picture below) and plug your test phone into the “Fax/Modem” outlet of the surge suppressor. If you do not have dial tone at this point replace the surge suppressor.
5. If you do have dial tone after the surge suppressor (yellow colored box in picture below), then plug the original phone line back into the “Fax/Modem” side of the surge suppressor and remove the same phone line from the V4 Sign Controller “Phone In” connection and plug that end of the phone line into your phone (plug the blue colored line in picture below into your test phone). If you do not have a dial tone at this point replace the phone line between the surge suppressor and the V4 Sign Controller.
6. If you do have dial tone at this point then plug the phone line back into the V4 Sign Controller and call the signs phone number one more time (from your cell phone is fine) to make sure that the signs phone number is still busy (or rings and rings), if so then replace the V4 Sign Controller.
